    Bio:

    Erika Miyamoto is a Rights Lab Research Fellow in Slavery and War with the Leverhulme Centre for Research on Slavery in War, a collaboration between the University of Nottingham and King’s College London. Her focus at the Leverhulme Centre is on Law and Justice, assessing legal and policy interventions addressing slavery in and after armed conflict, with attention to survivor perspectives, intersectional impacts, and intervention effectiveness.

    Her expertise lies in international law, human rights, and transitional justice. Drawing on feminist and queer legal theory, she examines how legal frameworks address the lived experiences of survivors of slavery and gender-based violence in conflict. Her work engages with international courts and tribunals, as well as broader justice mechanisms, to explore survivor-centred approaches to accountability, reparations, and long-term recovery.

    Erika holds a PhD in Law from the University of Barcelona, where she examined sexual slavery in international law through the case of Japan’s military sexual slavery. She also holds an LLM in International Law from the University of Glasgow. Prior to joining the Centre, she was a Research Fellow at the University of Bologna on the EU-funded interdisciplinary GenDJus – Rights and Prejudice project and has experience working with international organisations and development actors.

    Bio: Angeline is a human rights lawyer. She holds an Msc International Development from the University of Edinburgh and an LLB from the University of Nairobi. Angeline Abuor is the Co-Founder and Executive Director of the Youth Organisation for Research and Justice Advocacy (YORJA), a youth-led organization advancing advocacy and capacity-building for the youth in transitional justice. She works across diverse sectors including financial services, extractives and non-profit development. She has supported social impact initiatives such as providing pro bono legal services with FIDA Kenya on succession, child protection, and women’s rights, and contributing to gender and human rights-responsive policy integration in Kenya’s extractives industry, including the Tullow Oil Project. Regionally, Angeline serves as the East Africa Representative on the African Youth for Transitional Justice (AY4TJ) Taskforce of the African Union, where she advocates for meaningful youth engagement in peacebuilding and post-conflict processes. She is currently leading efforts to simplify and popularize the African Union Transitional Justice Policy (AUTJP) for youth audiences across Africa.  
    Skills and expertise: I have strong skills in legal and policy analysis, research, and writing, particularly in human rights and transitional justice contexts. I am able to translate complex legal and policy issues into clear, practical outputs for diverse audiences. I also bring experience in advocacy and stakeholder engagement, including working with civil society, youth networks, and institutional partners.
    Reason for membership: I am seeking to join the network to deepen my engagement with practitioners and scholars working in justice, peacebuilding, and reconciliation. It will provide a platform for learning, knowledge exchange, and collaboration across different contexts. I also hope to contribute my experience in human rights, youth engagement, and policy work while strengthening my understanding of emerging transitional justice approaches.
