Position: Student and Research fellow Organisation / institution: Rhodes University & International Council on Human Rights, Peace & Politics: Centre for Peace & Conflict Studies Bio: Arnold Mugwagwa is a research fellow at the International Council for Human Rights and Peace & Politics (ICHRPP) and a dedicated scholar with a passion for peace, security, and international affairs. Currently pursuing a PhD in Political Studies, Arnold brings a robust academic background, holding a Master\'s degree in International Affairs and a Bachelor’s degree (with honours) in Peace Studies from Midlands State University. Throughout his career, Arnold has continually expanded his expertise, earning a range of professional certifications. These include a Certificate in Applying Foresight & Scenario Building on Multilateralism and the Geopolitical Agency of Africa (European University Institute & Institute for Security Studies), as well as certificates in Research Integrity (Human Sciences Research Council, 2025) and Non-Violent Actions & Peacebuilding (United States Institute for Peace; Gandhi Global Academy). He is also an alumnus of the Youth Peace Lab’s first cohort on Youth Security and Peace (Institute for Justice & Reconciliation, 2025) and an associate of the Institute for Economics & Peace. An alumnus of the Human Science Research Council\'s 1st Cohort of the Science Diplomacy Summer School. Arnold\'s commitment to advancing global peace is further reflected in his specialised training in nuclear disarmament, non-proliferation, and verification, gained through the Nuclear Disarmament Verification programme at the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, in collaboration with VERTIC. He is a valued member of VERTIC’s Working Group on the Role of Multilateral Institutions in Nuclear Disarmament Verification, where he actively contributes to international policy initiatives. With extensive knowledge and practical experience across peacebuilding, security policy, and international cooperation, Arnold is committed to driving positive change and fostering inclusive, sustainable futures.
